Our Program
At The Nurtury Preschool we offer a mixed age - group program for children ages 3 - 4. We can provide programming to children ages 2 and 2 1/2 as long as they are fully potty trained (no diapers or pull-ups.)
At The Nurtury Preschool we pride ourselves on providing children with endless learning opportunities. We focus on encompassing the 5 learning domains for Early Childhood Development into our everyday learning and teaching practices.
The 5 learning domains we focus on are: Social, Emotional, Physical, Cognitive and Language Development.
Social Development:
At The Nurtury Preschool we offer children a variety of play and learning experiences that help build their social skills. We focus on 10 main social skills throughout the year. A few examples of the social skills we focus on are : turn-taking, following directions, learning and following routines, Emotions and regulating those big emotions that can pop up during these experiences in preschool, and learning how to participate appropriately in classroom tasks that are either teacher or child lead.
We celebrate special holidays and birthdays in the classroom.
Emotional Development:
At The Nurtury Preschool we pride ourselves on the learning environment we provide to children and their families. Each month the teacher may change up the theme based on the interest of the children in our care. We recognize each children's differences and uniqueness and we want each and every child that comes into our program to feel valued. Each day the teacher will set out a variety of different centers and toys that the children can choose from.
Physical Development:
At The Nurtury Preschool we understand the importance of gross and fine motor development in these Early Childhood Years. We provide children with daily opportunities to practice developing their gross motor and fine motor abilities. Each day weather permitting children will receive at least 30 minute of outside play. On days where the children cannot go outside the teacher will either make use of the gym or the they may provide the children with movement breaks inside the classroom. Each day the children will be provided morning "fun" tubs that allow them to practice their fine motor skills.
Cognitive Development:
At The Nurtury Preschool, we provide children with engaging daily learning opportunities that teach them pre learning skills and concepts. The skills we focus on are literacy skills (pre-reading skills, letter recognition), math skills (number recognition, counting, patterns, shapes, colours), life skills (dramatic play), roles and responsibility, science (stem), social studies, and many more. Each day the children will be exposed to concepts such as weather, days of the week, months of the year, etc. during a daily circle time. The children will be provided daily centers to practice literacy and math skills.
Language Development:
At The Nurtury Preschool, we provide children with daily learning opportunities to promote language development. The children will be exposed to a variety of activities to promote their language development. Some activities include : rhyming, storytelling, and songs. These activities will be during circle time and the children will have centers that correspond to the song, book or rhyming activity that they can participate in.
Other activities that children will participate in
Each day the children will also engage in some sensory play. Everyday the children will have access to art supplies to create their own art projects during their day. Once a week the teacher will also have the children create a teacher-directed art project to display in the classroom that corresponds with the theme for that month.
Each day the teacher will meet with the children either one - on - one or with a small group of children to work on skills that the children need extra help with while the others complete center activities.
